The National Board of Directors of The Arthritis Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Janet Yale to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer, The Arthritis Society, effective June 4, 2012.

Ms. Yale has over 20 years of leadership experience in private, public and not-for-profit organizations. She joins The Society having served as CEO of Scouts Canada from September 2010 to November 2011 after retiring as national chair of TELUS’ Community Boards where she led the development of TELUS’ innovative corporate philanthropy model.

Ms. Yale held several senior leadership roles at TELUS, including executive vice-president of corporate affairs from October 2003 to January 2009. The former president of the Canadian Cable Television Association, Ms. Yale has also held senior leadership positions at AT&T Canada, the CRTC and the Consumers’ Association of Canada.

An active community leader, Ms. Yale currently serves on the boards of CARE Canada, the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Ottawa Art Gallery. She holds a Master of Economics and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Toronto, as well as a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University. She was called to the Ontario Bar in April 1983. In 2005, Ms. Yale became a certified director through the Institute of Corporate Directors, earning the designation ICD.D.

The Arthritis Society is Canada’s principal health charity, providing education, programs and support to 4.6 million Canadians with arthritis and their loved ones. Since 1948, The Society has been the largest non-government funder of arthritis research leading to breakthroughs in the diagnosis, treatment and care of people with arthritis.
